ReelEstate
The what
Our client approached us wanting to create a new style of property app, focused on allowing potential buyers to scroll through reels of advertised properties with the same scrolling mentality demonstrated through apps such as Instagram and TikTok. They wanted to make the property browsing experience more in line with how users enjoy interacting with apps that have browsing features.
The main key points were to have a reel system as the home screen, allowing for immediate scrolling with properties that match your interest algorithm, while also being able to search for properties in a more traditional fashion using individual specifications and location.
With two different onboarding options, one for potential buyers and one for letting agents, ReelEstate offers a unique approach to property browsing and property listing. The design and use offer an enhanced, modern application compared to the larger-scale competitors.
The why
In a world that has become so accustomed to scrolling through reels and images, the client saw an opportunity to apply that to a field that is still tedious and not very visually engaging.
Property sites like Rightmove and Zoopla have no engaging UI features that make browsing property, whether for leisure or to buy, anything other than a chore.
The how
I started with direct competitor research, downloading the top competing apps and reviewing their design and key features. This also involved reading through customer reviews to analyse and understand their pain points and gain points.
That helped me design specifically for the client’s brief points while considering the larger demographic of potential users. With the research at hand I also formulated bullet points of various app specifications for the client to approve before moving forwards with designing the prototype.
